India for long has been dreaming of becoming the permanent member of United Nations Security Council. Everyone knows that India is at the receiving end ever since its first PM Jawahar Lal Nehru declined United States offer to take he permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council" around 1953 and suggested that it be given to China.

Shashi Tharoor in his book "Nehru — The Invention of India," stated that Nehru had suggested that the seat, till then held by Taiwan, be offered to Beijing instead. Shahi Tharoor stated that Nehru declined the offer about the same time as he turned down "with scorn" John Foster Dulles' support for an Indian Monroe Doctrine.

Since then India has been pushing hard for UNSC reforms. But its latest push for urgent reforms of the UN Security Council and permanent seat got huge shock when the General Assembly decided to roll over discussions on reforming the world body's top organ to its next session.

India along with G4 nations tremed the development as the most unfortunate that the momentum couldn't be built in the current session. India earlier faced setback when its push for Nuclear Supliers Group (NSG) met with opposition from China and other nations.
