The Andhra Pradesh & Telangana Governments had high hopes for increase in the number of Assembly Seats in their respective states. Keeping this in mind, they had been luring MLA’s from other parties in their state with a big promise. The process still continues.
Telangana Government wanted a spike
AP expected the seats to increase to 225 from 175 while Telangana Government wanted a spike of 153 from existing 119. This was based on the Section 26 of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 regarding the delimitation of Assembly Constituencies post bifurcation.
The Union Government, has now given in writing in the Parliament that there is no such possibility of increasing Assembly seats anytime in the future. Sources say that Attorney General of India has clarified that delimitation can happen only after 2026!
TDP MP Devendar Goud wanted a reply from Union Home Ministry regarding the delimitation of Constituencies. Well, as expected both the CM’s have now been pushed into a tight spot and they will face heat from jump jilanis now. The coming weeks will be challenging for them.
