Hyderabad witnessed heavy downpour today morning resulting in the death of seven people including four children. Heavy rains resulted water logging leading to traffic jams across various parts of the capital city. In many places vehicles were seen submerged in rain water and traffic came to a stand still. 


In Ramanthapur, four members of a family including two kids died after a wall collapsed on their hut. In Bholakpur, a woman and her two daughters died when roof of their house collapsed. A building collapsed at Lal Darwaja, Old City but no one was injured. 


Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy  announced evacuation of people staying in old and dilapidated buildings.  Nampally, Medicity Hospital, Adikmet flyover, Tilak Nagar Railway Bridge, Allagadabavi, Chilkalguda, Road No 10 Banjara Hills, KCP Junction, Afzal Gunj, ST. Anns School, Fever Hospital, Tolichowki X Road, Begum Bazar L&O PS, Nalgonda X road, AY Mandali, Panjagutta, Nagarjuna Circle are the heavily affected areas. 


10 MMTS (local) trains between Hyderabad-Lingampalli were cancelled and 3 MMTS services between Hyderabad-Lingampalli were partially cancelled due to heavy rains.  It is comingout that water levels at Hussain Sagar lake reached alarming levels following heavy downpour of 71 mm in Hyderabad. 


Hyderabad witnessed heaviest downpour after 15 long years. Excessive water troubled people as a sluice gate of the 453-year-old Hussain Sagar lake was opened to discharge water. It was in August 2000 last when the sluice gates were held open. The water levels at the lake reached 513.41 metres.

People living in the slums of Ratnanagar, Dattanagar, abutting areas of Hussainsagar surplus nala, Domalguda, Ashok Nagar and Himayatnaga have been warned of possible floods.
