GHMC calls in Army as rains lash Hyd

Heavy rains lashed Hyderabad continuously and the GHMC has asked Army officials to inspect Begumpet, Nizampet, Alwal and Hakimpet areas, especially low-lying colonies.The Army has offered to help in shifting people by boats, and in rehabilitation operations. Based on the intensity of rain, the GHMC will vacate residents from 50 colonies. Army officials will inspect vulnerable pockets, narrow lanes and areas close to lakes.


KTR asks officials to work for separate pipeline for drainage

 Municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao after taking stock of rain hit Hyderabad city by visiting Allamthota Baavi and Mayur Marg in Begumpet that were inundated when the Begumpet nala overflowed directed officials to take up works for a separate pipeline for drainage and storm water after the present spell of rains.  


Bomb hoax in Hyderabad

Even as city is reeling under rains, city police were made to run after reports circulated in social media and WhatsApp stating that bombs were planted in and around the city were fake and baseless. Message saying that city was on a high alert as 14 bombs were planted across the city went viral on social media and WhatsApp and several Hyderabadis forwarded the message to others to ascertain its veracity.


Inhaling of intoxicating gas kills two

Two persons working at SM Labs located in Moula Ali Industrial Area died early on Thursday morning after inhaling gas that leaked from a reactor.The deceased were identified as Dheeraj Mehta (22) of West Bengal and Vijay Kumar Ram (28) of Bihar. There were 30 employees working in the lab when the gas leaked.

Congress and TDP expressed their displeasure over the sudden proroguing of the state Assembly and Council by the state government. The parties found fault with the Government as important issues like suicides of farmers, water-sharing pact with Maharashtra, creation of new districts, Eamcet-2 paper leak, slain gangster Nayeem cases, devastation caused by heavy rains and bad condition of roads in city are waiting to be discussed.

41 trains to Vijayawada cancelled

Heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh for the past two days resulted in the cancellation of 41 trains on Thursday and Friday. Vijayawada is virtually cut off for the next 30 hours as heary rains in  Guntur and Krishna districts, led to seven breaches in the Nadikudi - Guntur section of South Central Railway.Chief Operations Manager N. Madhusudhan Rao explained that by 7.30 a.m. on Friday, trains would be moving towards Vijayawada via Kazipet, even as they would be taking up non-RRI works too.


Rahul Gandhi supports special status

Rahul Gandhi, Congress vice president who is currently in Uttar Pradesh, pledged his support to special status to Andhra Pradesh. The APCC delegation led by its president N. Raghuveera Reddy explained to Mr. Gandhi about the people’s ballot proposed by the party in support of the special category status. The people’s ballot, slated to commence at Tirupati on September 28, would ask the people about their support to the special status as also whether the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu led Government had fulfilled its promises.


Miss Vijayawada selections commence

Selections for Miss Vijayawada commenced at a grand function. Sai Creative Entertainments organised Miss Vijayawada selections that took place at Hotel Khaan saab here in the city on Wednesday. A total of 190 candidates participated in the Miss Vijayawada competition and 14 of them got selected for the finals. Earlier this week the brand Sai Creations organised the same event as Miss Guntur and 11 candidates were selected for the finals.

Victims lodged complaint against land mafia in Vijayawada.  Registration mafia from Rayalaseema prompted the victims to come all the way from Tirupati to CMO, in Vijayawada, to lodge a complaint over the mafia activities. Land grabbers and some real estate businessmen in Vizag city have allegedly formed a gang and distributed some posh areas and locations among themselves to grab valuable land on the city’s outskirts. 


57 stuck atop of bus in Guntur

Another 10 people, who were in an autorickshaw, were also rescued.

57 people got stuck atop of the bus in Guntur as rains lashed Andhra Pradesh. They had a lucky escape on Thursday after their vehicle got stuck in the fast-flowing Yedduvagu at Vutukuru in Krosuru mandal of Guntur district.The police, revenue officials and local residents rescued the passengers — who had climbed onto the roof of the vehicle — after six hours with the help of ropes. Another 10 people, who were in an autorickshaw, were also rescued.
