Hyderabad sources have stated that even as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's demolition squads are going hammer and tongs at illegal constructions on lakes and canals, an investigation has revealed that there are several areas in the city where lake beds have been encroached upon by the government's own departments.

The city based Right to Information activists’ shows Google Maps images to prove the GHMC's complicity in allowing illegal structures to come up in violation of rules, government orders and a series of high court judgments.

RTI activist Thakur Rajkumar Singh has said the tourism department did not have permission to construct such a building inside full tank level (FTL) Ramammakunta lakebed, but somehow it went ahead thinking that it was above laws and this will not only kill the 120 acre lake, but will make flooding in the area a harsh reality.

It was stated that even the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSS) has reportedly encroached the lake bed of Lingamkunta, in Chandanagar, to construct a sewerage treatment plant (STP) and this had prompted the high court to stay the construction following a writ petition.
