Bihar CM Nitish Kumar took a bold decision by imposing liquor ban across the state. He stood rock solid despite protests by the opposition and went on record that prohibition will bring down the crime rates.
Even PM Modi heaped praises on liquor ban decision during his recent visit saying "I greet Nitish Kumar from the core of my heart for launching a campaign against liquor. But, this work (prohibition) would not be a grand success only by efforts of Nitish Kumar or one party. All the political parties, social organisations and citizens have to participate in it to make it a ‘jan-jan ka andolan‘ (peoples movement)."
Nitish Kumar after a month's ban claimed that the crime rate came down by 27 percent. However it is coming out that 9 months after the ban, police crime date gave shock.
It revealed that ognizable crime -- which the police can investigate without a magistrate's order -- rose 13 per cent between April and October 2016, from 14,279 in April to 16,153 in October (the latest available data).
This showed that crime rate increased in Bihar despite liqour ban.What is shocking is all crimes like murder,rape,kidnapping and rioting increased after the ban.
