New Delhi sources have stated that following widespread protests in Tamil Nadu in support of the bull-taming sport Jallikattu, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Paneerselvam had discussed the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the capital on Thursday.
Meanwhile soon after the meeting, the Prime Minister has tweeted, “While appreciating the cultural significance of Jallikattu, the Prime Minister observed that the matter is presently sub-judice.”
In the very next tweet, Mr. Modi has added, “The Centre would be supportive of steps taken by the State Government.” The Prime Minister has also assured the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister that all possible assistance would be provided to the State to address the drought situation. A central team would soon be sent to Tamil Nadu to assess the drought situation.
