Thiruvananthapuram sources have stated that the Vigilance department on Thursday had given a clean chit to Minister Mercykutty Amma over the allegation of corruption in the import of cashew nuts. The Vigilance which conducted a quick verification found that the minister had intervened in the issue for the benefit of workers.
The report has been submitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance court. The allegation is that corruption to the tune of Rs 10.34 crore occurred in the import of cashew nuts.
The complaint had said that cashew nuts were
procured in December through the tender that was already cancelled by the
Director Board in November. Though 500 metric tonnes were quoted in
the tender, 1000 metric tonnes of cashew nuts were procured. The complaint also
pointed out that the information provided in the e-tender website were false.
