Tragic shooting of Software professional Srinivas Kuchibhotla in Kansas USA, shocked everyone across India. People of two Telugu states Telangana and Andhra Pradesh protested angrily against Donald Trump and US government.
Even few NRIs in USA have taken protest marches against the racial attacks. However much to the shock of all it is coming out that racial attacks against Indians are not becoming part of breaking news in USA.
Many chose to ignore the attacks and even print and electronic media didnot cover the news. CNN didnot call it a breaking news and for those who watch CNN, breaking news is a regular occurrence. Just last month Saturday Night Live joked that they were looking forward to not seeing and hearing the ubiquitous CNN breaking news alert.
What came as surprise for Indians is Indian Americacn Congress men too maintained deafening silent. Ami Bera, Ro Khanna, Pramila Jayapal, Kamla Harris or Raja Krishnamoorthi didnot utter a single word. Only Krishnamoorthi tweeted two days after the attack.
Shalabh Kumar, Nikki Haley , amabassador to UN, Bobby Jindal, Governor all remained silent. Many in India are angry with their behavior as they are turning a blind eye to the concerns of Indians. The silence was bi-partisan. Ro Khanna is going to coal country to help children there learn to code. Senator Harris is seen as a candidate for President in 2020 — so would be ambassador Haley or governor Jindal. Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s district is in the Midwest like Kansas. Congresswoman Jayapal is progressive and speak out on equality issues. All of them have a stake in speaking out.
Even Bollywood stars Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone,who havev been vocal Anti Trump campaigners, remained silent shocking everyone. List increases and they include Aziz Ansari, Mindy Kaling and M.Night Shyamalan.
