Sources from New Delhi have stated that earlier on Monday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami had called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and presented a 41-page memorandum on a range of issues of concern to the State. Among other things, he requested the Prime Minister to release funds for ‘disaster relief’.

As per report from sources it was stated that this is first official visit of Mr. Edappadi K. Palaniswami after he replaced O. Panneerselvam as the Chief Minister. A statement issued by the Tamil Nadu Information and Public Relations Department said that the Chief Minister raised a number of issues with the Prime Minister. It is immediately not known as to what the response of the Prime Minister was to the long list of demands of the Chief Minister.

According to the statement, the Chief Minister sought release of funds for disaster relief on the plea that some parts of the State are reeling under the impact of a severe drought. He also sought release of funds for relief and rehabilitation of people affected by Cyclone Vardah and disaster relief assistance for the 2015 floods.
Meanwhile on water resources, the Chief Minister had petitioned the Prime Minister seeking formation of the Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee for the implementation of the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. Besides, he wanted the Mekedatu scheme of Karnataka and the construction of dams by Kerala across Pambar and Bhavani rivers stopped. On the Mullaperiyar dam, the Chief Minister sought restoration of water level to 152 ft.
