Sources from Chennai have stated that Tamilnadu Governor C Vidyasagar Rao, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and leaders of various political parties extended greetings on the occasion of the International Women's Day. Meanwhile a Raj Bhavan statement had said the governor extended his heartiest greetings and best wishes to women and girls in India and across the world.



Mr. Rao said globalization and technological revolution brought significant opportunities to women across the globe. Nari Shakthi (woman power) had taken a leap forward in the country. "Let us pledge to bridge the gender disparity, shed away inequalities, show respect towards women, and promote empowerment of women and girls to tap their full potential in the changing work space.

Sources have stated that Palaniswami had recalled various schemes rolled out by the government for the welfare of women, including eight grams of gold for marriage, cradle baby scheme, maternity leave of nine months, and sanitary napkins for students, women hostels and all-woman police stations.



Meanwhile the CM also recalled his order realizing Jayalalitha's Amma Scooter scheme for the benefit of women, which would come with a subsidy of 50% or a higher ceiling of Rs 20,000. "I extend my heartiest greetings to women to stay united, and confront the challenges with confidence and perseverance".
