In a first of his kind, Saffron terror gets its first conviction. Though it is wrong to use the word 'Saffron terror' as terrorism has no religion and color, the then Home Minister, Chidambaram under UPA regime coined the word Saffron Terror attracting the ire of all hindus and especially BJP.

When NIA arrested Swami Aseemananda along with others in connection with the Ajmer blast of 2007, BJP accused Congress of trying to divert the attention from the real threat posed by the Islamic terror. 


Now in a first, NIA special court convicted three people in the Ajmer blast but acquitted seven others which included Swami Aseemanand,giving benefit of doubt. 


This verdict by the judge Dinesh Kumar Gupta marks the first conviction in Saffron Terror. Those convicted are Sunil Joshi, who has figured in other cases, Devendra Gupta and Bhavesh Patel. Of these, Joshi died much before the trial began in June 2014. He was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Dewas, MP, on December 29, 2007. The special court held that that the trio masterminded the attack.


Court however acquitted Aseemanand,who earlier led a campaign against Christian missionaries for proselyti zing among tribals of Gujarat, and six others.He is an accused in other cases and authorities are investigating the charges.
