Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's dreams of creating a earthquake and burying PM Modi under it didnot happen in the recently concluded assembly elections to five states.
Instead the Congress party got virtually wiped out in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Congress party however got a breather when it won in Punjab,not due to its strengths but due to the mistakes of the Badals.
It emerged as the single largest party in miniscule states Goa and Manipur. Congress planned to draw solace that it would be forming government in 3 states compared to BJP's 2 however small the states may be.
Congress started claiming 3-2 win in its favour, but much to the shock, it turned out to be 1-4 defeat as Congress failed to take the initiative in Goa and Manipur and BJP seizing the opportunity quickly.
stunned Congress approached Supreme Court but even there it got huge shock. Rahul Gandhi who avoided media all these days, came with a shocker today.
Instead of talking about the dire straits the Congress party is in, he talked about 3 states where the party emerged as the single largest parties.
Then rubbishing criticism that national leadership didnot act quickly regards to Manipur and Goa, he said “It is a question of how much the BJP has thrown to steal the mandate of people of Manipur and Goa. That is the question. It is not about how soon they went, but with how much money the BJP gave to steal the mandate of Goa and Manipur,”
He added “They are saying that it is okay for them to misuse the office of the Governor... In the two States where we won, democracy has been undermined by them [BJP] using financial power, money. That is what is happening. The mandate of the people of Goa and Manipur has been stolen by the BJP,”
On the party loss in Uttar Pradesh ,he said “I would like to say that the BJP won the elections in U.P. and I would like to congratulate them. Why they won it, there are multiple reasons. Large part of it is polarisation. But the fact is that they won the elections,”
About the election results he surprised all saying “That is not a bad result. It is true that we lost the election in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.” But many analysts say Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party is taking refuge in 'cash' attack on the ruling BJP rather than look at the catastrophe that struck the party.
