Recently Cognizant Technology Solutions has laid off 6000 employees showcasing them as non-performers.Media reports state that US-listed IT firm Cognizant has laid off over 6,000 employees this year. This is 2-3% of the company’s workforce, which may lose their jobs for being relatively under performers and for skill mismatch, the report states. As per Business Standards, around the time of appraisal, it is a common practice across all the IT firms where the bottom 1% of the workforce will be laid off for non-performance.
In the case of Cognizant, as the company shifts its focus from traditional IT services to digital, and it is getting away with unnecessary roles. In January 2018 Infosys the top leading IT company with huge workforce has planned to lay off 9000 employees on the account of non-performers.The IT industry, as a whole, is undergoing a major transition to digital.The middle-level employees are the ones who are mostly affected by this. In this cutthroat competitive world, it is either "Do or Die" scenario for them. Thus this White-collared job has zero security which is called as the "Corporate Scenario".
