BJP senior leader LK.Advani is regarded by many as the next Sardar Patel for his tough decisions. Many expected him to become Prime Minister of India. However his hardline stand on many issues like terrorism, secularism, appeasement,uniform civil code, Kashmir issue got very few support from others.
This prevented him from becoming the PM though BJP won two elections under his leadership. He played important role in the rise of BJP from 2 MPs to national powerhouse. He relinquished the top post for Vajpayee. His political career faced lot of ups and downs and when he was charged in a scandal where he allegedly received payments through hawala brokers, he decided not to contest elections.
Later his name was cleared by the Supreme Court of India. He later became Home Minister and Deputy PM under Vajpayee regime. BJP is now planning to honour him by making him the President of India. Now with the party having the numbers in both houses, it can get its candidate elected for the top post.
However now Babri ghost may dash Advani's dreams of becoming the President. Supreme Court of India is hearing Babri Masjid-Ram Mandir case and yesterday it called for out of court settlement by both the parties.
Today it is expected to decide whether senior leaders of BJP,LK.Advani,Murli Manohar Joshi,Uma Bharti along with others should face trial in 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case. Currently case is hearing two cases going on the matter relating to the 1992 demolition of the 16th century Babri mosque in Ayodhya - one in Lucknow and the other in Raebareli.
Allahabad High Court quashed conspiracy charges against Advani, Joshi, Bharti, then UP Chief Minister and present Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh and other BJP and Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders.
The case reached Supreme Court and all eyes are on the highest judiciary and whether Babri ghost will dash 'Loh Pursh' dreams?
