Special Status issue is an emotional issue which touches the chords of the people of Andhra Pradesh. Right after the insensitive,heartbreaking bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into AP and TS, all political parties, BJP and Congress promised to give special status to Andhra Pradesh to assuage the feelings of the people.
However Modi-Chandra Babu who forged an alliance before 2014 elections went back on their promise of special status and instead accorded special package citing various legalities. Under these circumstances, opposition parties like Jagan's YSRCP and Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena started taking advantage of the failure of TDP-BJP combine in according special status.
Both are dreaming of reaping rich dividends in the 2019 elections as tempers ran high when the proposed peaceful protests at RK Beach was quelled ruthlessly by AP police. However Jagan's YSRCP got huge shock when TDP – BJP Candidate PV Madhav won the Uttarandhra Graduates MLC seat by a whopping 9215 Votes Margin Over his nearest rival, PDF Candidate.
This is important as the victory came from a place where special status and Railway Zone are the core issues. Many analysts feel that this proves that people are not interested by special status and instead are keen on development and jobs.
