Hyderabad Metro Rail will not be purchasing power from Telangana Transco and instead has decided to purchase power in the open access system. HMR needs 70 MW of power per day to run the metro rail in the city. The power from TS Transco is very costly than that of the power from Open Access System.

Telangana government has accepted the proposal of HMR. Further to bring the costs of electricity down,  HMR has decided to set up solar rooftops in all 64 metro railway stations in the city. HMR entered into an MOU with GreenKo Energy Company for the same.

HMR will provide space to set up solar rooftop units in all metro rail stations. The lease agreement is for 25 years. Low energy costs will mean that the project is viable and will be beneficial to all the parties involved. Moreover, tickets of HMR will be at affordable rates to the people.
