As per report from sources it was stated that Hotels (except five-star) across South India shut their services on Tuesday in order to protest against the hiked taxes under the GST ( Good and Services) regime that will come into force from July one in the country.

It was stated that T. Satyanarayana, the general secretary of the AP Hotels' Association, said that the GST rate on non-AC hotels had been fixed at 12% and on AC hotels at 18% in the GST as against the present 5%.

He added, 'the increased tax rates will not only put burden on hotel managements but also on customers visiting the hotels. It will become impossible to run the hotels once the GST is implemented.'

Meanwhile the association has represented the issue to the Union government but has not received any respond yet. The hotel management will intensify stir if the centre did not respond positively to the demands.
