Andhra Pradesh sources have stated that AP CM Chandrababu Naidu is getting shock aftershock these days. Chandrababu encouraged large scale defections of Opposition legislators by assuring both the old timers and the new comers that there will be no dearth of seats and everyone will be accommodated in the next elections as Assembly seats are going to be increased.
According to sources Chandrababu has been asking his party MPs to put pressure on the Centre to increase the Assembly seats by next elections. But it appears that the Central Government is not keen on increasing the number of Assembly seats in the Telugu states. The latest reports say that the Centre is saying that as per Article 170 (3), there can’t be any hike in the number of constituencies anywhere in the country till 2026, when constituency delimitation would be taken up.
Sources have stated that there won't be any change in the number of constituencies for 2024 elections. It may be recalled here that even the Election Commission conveyed its inability to address the Assembly seats issue citing legal defects in the Act.
