Mahatma Gandhi and Subhas Chandra Bose are spirited freedom fighters which India recognizes in its history.But of all that behind scenario.Mahatma Stands first in recognition. India won independance through Mahatma Gandhi'sAhims.But on the otherhand, if India had won through force, our army under the leadership of Bose he could have easily driven to Delhi,the capital and made India into a land of dictatorship.
To give a clear picture to those of us who are in admiration for such a rule, look at our neighboring countries such as Myanmar. Burma was as developed as India in 1947. Now, their Miliary Junta has reduced them to fragments. Democracies must always keep their armies under the tight guidance and never let the armies to to take dictatorship.
If Indian public had gone with Bose, I doubt if we would have gotten independence in this united peaceful form. For one, Gandhi's strategy of peace struggle was popular both in Britain and the US and attracted a lot of sympathy & support.Subhas Bose had very few supporters and recognition outside India. British nationalists would have easily justified the use of brutal force for crushing Indian independence. Gandhi's immense popularity & righteousness kept the British government from sending him & his silent firm disciples to Andamans or to the gallows.
