Anitha, hailing from the district of Ariyalur was found dead in her home today. The girl had fought in the supreme court against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) considered as the only criteria for medical admissions.
Sources report that the girl was found hanging by her parents in their Sendurai house. The young girl was depressed after the central government refused to exempt Tamilnadu from NEET based medical admissions.
Anitha is the daughter of a casual labourer working in Trichy Market, and with her hard work and efforts managed to score 1176 out of 1200 in the state board examinations in Tamil medium, but couldn't match the same in NEET, which is based on CBSE syllabus, where she secured only 86 percentile.She had a cut off of 199.75 for engineering and 196.75 for medicine.
The teenager had told the media that she aims to be a doctor and will succeed if the admissions are based on Plus two score alone. However the central and state governments together played spoilsport, as initially when the TN Govt requested for Exemption from NEET for a year, the centre initially pretended to agree, but later changed track as the TN BJP leaders favoured NEET.
This cruel transformation of the centre has ultimately taken toll of a life shattering the dreams of a girl and the future of a family. NEET ultimately aims to favor only the elite class and a particular section of the society, and the caste biased people have actually welcome NEET , but the harsh reality is that it refuses the oppressed people of their opportunities besides also killing people and careers.
