Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal on Monday made this decision to disqualify 18 AIADMK MLAs who are backing sidelined party deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran. The MLAs were disqualified with reason that falls under the Schedule 10 of the Indian Constitution, which deals in detail with the anti-defection law.
"The MLA’s lose their post after they are disqualified by the speaker,” said a statement issued by assembly secretary K Boopathy on Monday morning.
Last month, these 18 MLAs met Governor C Vidyasagar Rao and gave separate letters from each regarding their withdrawal of support to the current chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. This was done few days after ADMK merger happened. Now the scenario is this With the disqualification of the 18 MLAs by the speaker , the strength of AIADMK is getting weak has come down to 116 (including the speaker). The DMK has 89 members on its side, the Congress has a total eight MLAs and the IUML has one on its side . Now TTV has nothing to do and the ball is in DMK court
