The Telangana state prisons department has set out on a mission to eliminate begging with rehabilitation plans and make the state a beggar-free cleaner one. In a press release, the department revealed that a total of 316 male and 164 female beggars have been rehabilitated to Anand Ashram in Chanchalguda.


Out of these, 261 male and,140 female beggars were released after the assurance that they'll not indulge in begging again in their lives. The remaining 55 male and 24 female beggars are undergoing rehabilitation at Chanchalguda and Cherlapally locations.



Director general of prisons, VK Singh said that they intend to make  Hyderabad a clean city by December 20 and post Christmas day December 25, a reward of INR 500 will be given to citizens giving information on beggars, and the helpline to call and provide information is  040 24511791 and 040 24527846. 


This effort began after the global economic summit, and now it had been revealed that beggars are released after taking their fingerprints and if they ever indulge in begging, they'll be arrested prevention of begging act 1977 and will face imprisonment up to 6 months.
