It finally happened a breast milk bank has started in India, from past few years many attempts are made to pressure and maintain hygienic milk to infants and now breast milk bank made every mother be tension free. India’s first public sector breast milk bank got inaugurated by Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata at SSKM hospital.
Mamata stated on this occasion “This is a novel scheme to cater to the basic needs of a child who is just born, but does not get the milk from the mother or when the mother dies after giving birth to the child”.
Importance’s to breast milk increased few years back with more than 10,000-12000 deliveries every year, over 60 percent high risk deliveries, 2500-3000 babies transferred for intensive care bcoz of low baby weight and many more.
SSKM hospital authorities assured that their motive behind to start breast milk bank is to ensure every new baby born or admitted in the hospital receives mother’s milk, to heighten breastfeeding awareness, to avoid usage of formula milk and new born baby get milk which is bacteriologically safe.
