Andhra Pradesh has topped once again in the eunuch (Hijra) population and also in rate of sex change surgeries . Election commission which records sex change for sake of voting cards has reported in January that 1641 record sex change requests have been accepted . It includes 773 women changing to Men and 884 men wanting to become women.As of now nearly 740 women of young above 19 have undergone sex change operations and become men which meant transplantation of penis through 10 hour long operation ( popularly known as SRS ) costing nearly Rs.two lakhs and hospitalization of one month .Similarly 817 men above 19 have undergone SRS to become women .
SRS has become a common feature in the Indian society ever since supreme court made it legal but instituted a procedure for official SRS operations to avoid post SRS issues. Hyderabad is a known gay and eunuch clubs and hub in the country.There were three major temples for eunuchs and over 17 gay clubs in the state including 7 in Hyderabad
