Some of the most important wings of the state police such as OCTOPUS, Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), Counter Intelligence (CI), AP Police Academy (APPA), AP Forensic Science Laboratory and a few other units will reportedly continue in the current form. This would be for at least three years even after AP bifurcation. Sources say that this decision was taken after a high-level meeting regarding dividing the state police which was held at the DGP office on Tuesday. Sources say that a joint cadre is all set to be formed drawing officers from both Telangana and residuary Andhra Pradesh which is expected to be done as per the provisions of the 10th Schedule of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. For these special units, sources say that officers from the joint cadre will be chosen as head after mutual consultations of CM of both the states for three years while residuary AP and Telangana would have to develop these institutions of their own and Greyhounds, as specified in the Act, would be under the supervision of the Union Home Ministry.
