After knowing by pre-poll surveys predicting a defeat for the Telugu Desam in Seemandhra, which he was banking on, and Telangana, party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu in a big climbdown drove over to the residence of actor and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan on Wednesday to seek his support for the BJP-TDP alliance in both regions.  CBN’s sudden capitulation came just a day after the actor pointedly ignored him during the rally of BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in Hyderabad. “I met Pawan to seek his support for the TD-BJP alliance in both regions. I leave campaign decisions to him,” CBN said after an hour-long meeting with Pawan Kalyan athis Jubilee Hills residence. Pawan Kalyan agreed to CBN's request to campaign, saying that he wants to see Modi as Prime Minister and the NDA partners come to power in both Telangana and Seemandhra. Pawan Kalyan is riding a wave of popularity after the success of his recent movies. However, after launching his party last month the actor has held precisely two meetings on his own. His third outing was Mr Modi’s meeting. CBN’s desperate overture to the actor was all the more surprising because he has a crowdpuller in his own extended family, Jr NTR, the actor who had drawn huge crowds in the state in 2009. The actor has not been formally invited to campaign. Jr NTR is expected to brief the media on his role in the next few days. The other crowdpuller in the TDP ranks, Balakrishna, has been largely confined to the Hindupur Assembly, where he is contesting. The campaign, his first, of CBN’s son Lokesh too as not been a big hit. It is in this backdrop that Mr Naidu had to rush over to the actor’s house. After the meeting with CBN, Pawan Kalyan said that the new state of Telangana faces a host of problems including irrigation, power, unemployment, law and order while Seemandhra has to start from scratch and construct a new capital. Only the NDA and the TDP-BJP combine can ensure justice to all. “We three of us think in the same line. Modi-TDP is the best combination,” he said.
