Prime Minister Narendra Modi is started his foreign visits now in the official status as the Prime Minister of India. He started with his first two-day foreign trip to Bhutan on Sunday. In his first ever foreign trip, Modi would be launching a drive to reassert Indian influence in the region, would be offering financial and technical help and the lure of a huge market. As a part of this official trip to Bhutan, Modi will be accompanied by the Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh. As per the schedule, Modi will be meeting Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, the King of Bhutan and Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan. In his two day trip to Bhutan, Modi will be looking at the possibilities of two sides exploring ways to boost their ties, particularly in trade and hydro-electricity. As per the analysts, Modi choosing his first foreign trip to Bhutan assumes significance since China has lately intensified efforts to woo it and establish full-fledged diplomatic ties with Thimphu. Before his trip to Bhutan, Modi tweeted saying, ‘Bhutan and India share a very special relation that has stood the test of time. Thus Bhutan was natural choice for my first visit abroad.’ Modi stated before his departure that, he is looking forward to his first-ever visit to Bhutan and to nurturing and further strengthening India’s special relations with Bhutan. He is likely to address the joint session of the Parliament of Bhutan and inaugurate the building of Bhutan’s Supreme Court.
