Congress former MPs Ponnam Prabhakar and Rajaiah reportedly ridiculed Telangana CM KCR’s talk of two more airports near Hyderabad and aviation sources confirmed the same. KCR in his over enthusiasm to promote Hyderabad has reportedly said Hyderabad needs two more airports.
He suggested one at Ghatkesar and other one at Shamirpet. Political leaders are lamenting that if something has to be done, then the sad state of Begumpet Airport has to be first addressed.
According to one of the conditions specified by GMR for constructing Hyderabad’s latest airport, no other airport has to be operated in the vicinity of 150-200 kilometers from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad.
This is the reason why no domestic flights to Bangalore and other close by destinations were permitted from Begumpet even after repeated requests by fliers that travelling from Shamshabad to those cities by flight was of less duration compared to travel from Hyderabad’s areas to Shamshabad airport.
