From the time Andhra Pradesh got bifurcated, the million dollar question was, where will the new capital of residuary Andhra Pradesh will come up. Well as expected, the TDP government has officially announced the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh to come up close to Vijayawada. Mentioning the logistic advantages and availability of sufficient drinking water, the Chandrababu Naidu government has reportedly mooted the Vijayawada-Guntur stretch for new capital city. A lot of groundwork has gone behind the decision. Sources say that a high-level committee which was headed by municipal minister P Narayana reportedly had a lengthy meeting with experts panel headed by K C Sivaramakrishnan in New Delhi where the AP government's views on the capital city was presented. This also includes a proposal regarding the development of five smart cities such as Anantapur, Rajahmundry, Kurnool, Ongole and Nellore coupled with Visakhapatnam as the financial capital and software hub and Kakinada as hardware and petro-chemical hub. Given Rayalaseema’s aspirations, it has to be seen now how Naidu can convince people of that region.
