Well there may be more than what meets the eye in the advisory issued by Union ministry of home affairs regarding the special responsibility of the governor of Telangana with respect to law and order and also internal security in the designated common capital of Hyderabad. While the focus is mainly on encroachment of powers of Telangana state and the constitutional acceptance of Section 8 of AP Reorganization Act, sources say that MHA advisory has quietly extended the jurisdictions of the common capital from the current GHMC area to encompass entire Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts. MHA has reportedly done this by extending the special responsibility of the governor to the police Commissionerates of Hyderabad and Cyberabad and the district police of Ranga Reddy. Hyderabad revenue district comprises an area of 217 sq km, including Secunderabad Cantonment. Rangareddy revenue district has an area of 7,565 sq km. Well now the `special responsibility' of the governor would reportedly be exercised over an area of 7,782 sq km, which is approximately close to 12 times the jurisdiction of GHMC! Whether it is to weaken the power of Telangana government or if there is a big picture behind it is something we will know in coming time.
