Speculations are rife that Reliance Industries going to take over authority on Public transport APSRTC. Reliance Industries proposed the takeover plan last year itself, with the Kiran Kumar Reddy government but he has never responded on this proposal due to various reasons.Post Andhra Pradesh bifurcation the situation got worse and the corporation is reportedly getting 100 crores loss per a day. After the bifurcation of the state, Andhra Pradesh state transport had accumulated losses of Rs 24,000 crore which has now touched Rs 24,600 crore.
In the wake of huge losses incurred by the corporation experts suggested two alternatives! One, government to take over the control on the corporation, two corporation should run with private partnership
Reportedly, the CM Chandra Babu wishes to settle for the second option. According to sources Reliance reassured the government that it will improve the transport system as well as the entire corporation. It also reportedly promised to double salaries of the drivers and conductors.More details regarding this are awaited and we wonder how the RTC unions will respond to such a revolutionary step too.
