The Telangana government which celebrated its First independence day after state formation is going to drop the idea of making the historical fort as the permanent venue for Independence day celebrations. The historical monument is under the Archaeological Survey of India and it is very tough to get the permission for conducting the celebrations there every year.
Archaeological Survey of India already clarified that the permission for Telangana government is granted only for August 15th, 2014 and it is not in a position to give it as a permanent venue. Also the Telangana government faced stiff resistance from Indian Army which claims some of the area near the fort belongs to them. Unable to take these headaches every year, the state government decided to drop Golconda fort as permanent venue.
Telangana government initially planned to display tableaux highlighting Telangana culture but they are dropped after ASI refused to allow large trucks inside the fort. The narrow roads near the fort and uneven ground inside also became detrimental to display tableaux in mid-sized vehicles. It is said that the Chief minister had ordered the officials to identify land for constructing a permanent venue for the celebration of all National and State festivals from here on.
Accordingly, Revenue officials have identified 40 acres each in Rajendranagar and Serilingampally mandals for the purpose. The Telangana CM will take the final call on the proposals.
