In what may be turning out to be the next big land scam, there have been reports coming out that huge tracts of excessive land was reportedly acquired by government for the Hyderabad Metro Rail while Larsen & Toubro (L&T) says that it has got a possession of 269 acres. A national daily has revealed that while the government had reportedly acquired 879 acres near Nagole and another 410 acres in Miyapur, where two depots of L&T are coming up. But the construction company says it only received 104 acres in Nagole and 96 acres in Miyapur. C Ramachandraiah, director of Centre for Economics and Social Sciences has come out openly saying where the excess land has gone after huge acquisitions at these two places and elsewhere. Some documents are showing that at least 70 acres of prime land in Hyderabad which was not specified in concession agreement, was given to Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) on March 22, 2013. The disclosures are expected to further stoke the ongoing controversy over the rapid transit project, which would most likely get the previous Kiran Kumar Reddy dispensation under the scanner. The daily also mentioned this may be huge land scam similar to the recent scandals which sent many of AP’s politicians and bureaucrats to jail. Sources say that EAS Sarma, a retired bureaucrat and also a former secretary to the government of India, who guessed such a scam a year ago had reportedly written to the Centre seeking investigation.
