The citizens of Telangana may have to be bracing themselves for the worst ever summer of this decade, with reports that all avenues for power acquisition is now shut down, for the newly formed Telangana State. The four-hour shutdown is expected to go till six hours or even more in Hyderabad from April next, when the rabi operations start in full swing, officials and power for agriculture would also be affected in a big way. The 800-MW Krishnapatnam Thermal Power Plant being commissioned in AP offers a great source for optimism, but Telangana may not be able to derive benefit from it, if the indications are believed. AP government may not be willing to share it with TS, with the recent escalation of tensions between the two states while the 600-MW Bhupalpally power project would be commissioned only by August next year. Any scope for obtaining power from outside AP has slimmed down, as Tamil Nadu has already laid a complete claim on the grid corridor.
