The Telangana government is currently in a tight spot due to the flood of applications it has been receiving for food security cards and pensions. While the aim of the TS government in seeking fresh applications was to actually halve the number of beneficiaries, the situation has backfired.
Sources say that the number of fresh applications has indeed surpassed the current beneficiaries. The current number of pension beneficiaries is nearly 31.67 lakh. However, the fresh applications that the authorities have been receiving for pensions now stand at 37.94 lakh.
At the same time, there are 80 lakh white card holders currently whereas the fresh applications received are nearly 92.73 lakh. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had claimed that half of the existing beneficiaries are nothing but bogus.
But he is reportedly surprised at the fresh applications which surpassed the existing beneficiaries. It only goes to show how corrupt the system is and if KCR can weed it out and get the genuine count then it would be a major victory for his administration.
