The Government of Telangana is all set to slowly bid goodbye to the free power scheme that was implemented by YSR led Congress government in coming few months and years in various stages. But again there is a good news for the farmers of this region provided things go ahead as planned. Currently the government has to shell out Rs4800 crore per annum for free power to farmers. The cost of replacing all pump sets for farmers for 18 lakh farmers in the region is expected to cost Rs. 54000 crores which cannot be borne by the government at once. Hence the government is seeking help from Centre and also world bank to fund the project. And instead of 30 percent subsidy from centre, 20 from state and rest 50 percent by farmer, CM KCR is reportedly planning to ensure that farmers do not shell out any amount from their side. If this really happens, farmer troubles will be a thing of the past when it comes to power.
