The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) is all set to build a unique golden Lord Butter Krishna temple close to Kondaveedu Fort of Guntur district with a budget of Rs 500 crore. This would reportedly be the first of its kind golden temple in entire south India. The surroundings of the temple would be hosting pavilions for several attractions from the Mahabharata and Ramayana. The temple complex would also be home for an international school, a religious theme park, a medical centre, a museum with Kondaveedu’s history, a vedic school as well as a cow protection centre. A rare idol of the young Krishna, locally described as Venna Mudda Gopaludu, was located here during excavations at the historical Kondaveedu fort in 1998 which has reportedly inspired Iskcon to build a golden butter Krishna temple near Kondaveedu. This is expected to be a major tourist attraction near the proposed new capital of AP.
