In the first such major compensation for Andhra Pradesh state after the bifurcation of United AP, sources say Centre is gearing up to approve a financial package worth Rs 20,000 crore as a special development fund for the purpose of seven districts. Four Rayalaseema districts such as Anantapur, Chittoor, Kadapa and Kurnool and three districts of north coastal Andhra districts such as Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam would get funds under this special package. The AP government has reportedly requested Rs 24,350 crore under this package and sources say that the Centre is expected to sanction around Rs 20,000 crore based on the recommendations by Union ministry of planning. This in tune with section 46 (3) of the AP Reorganisation Act that specifies Rayalaseema and north coastal Andhra as backward areas and are eligible for the package. AP would be using this for road, safe drinking water, quality power supply, minor irrigation, tanks development, strengthening women and child welfare programmes, improving infrastructure for education and sanitation programme .
