The Andhra Pradesh government has reportedly asked the Centre for a sum of Rs 1,00,213 crore to construct new capital city of Vijayawada coupled with essential infrastructure and amenities. Other than the Centre, the Andhra Pradesh government has also reportedly sent this report to the Central Planning Commission as well as the 14th Finance Commission. The report specifies that least Rs 4 lakh crore is need for creating infrastructure. This would serve the new capital coupled with adequate road linkages to other parts of the state. The report mentions that the main concern now is to immediately develop the capital city so that they can facilitate a smooth transfer of the administrative and legislative functions operating currently from Hyderabad to the new location. They stated that it must be done as soon as possible. The report also stated that there was emphasis only on the development of Hyderabad for the last 60 years at the expense of development in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema.
