There are reports that the government of Telangana’s pet project, Water Grid (Jala Jaalam) has met with a road block in the initial stage itself. This mega project which reportedly needs about 1 Lakh Crores has an allocation made by Telangana state of 25000 Crore.
This took place in its recent budget and TS government has reportedly requested an assistance of at least 10000 Crore from the Center. However, the Modi government has reportedly turned down the TS government’s request.
The centre has reportedly said that the total size of central assistance for drinking water programs for all states doesn’t exceed Rs 9,000 crore. The Center also reportedly refused allowing any relaxation of FRBM limits for the state.
Usually, the relaxation allows the state government to seek more loans from other funding institutions and sources. It has to be seen how the Telangana CM KCR is going to go ahead with this project given the vast gap in the financial assistance.
