The first Sankranti festival after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh has gained more significance than any other time. This has become an occasion for stocktaking by Seemandhras, who reside in the city. While many visit their kith and kin in different places, some of them are also reportedly taking stock of ancestral properties and considering buying new properties in big cities such as Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur given that there is a real estate boom in full swing in many places of AP. There are media reports that out of the approximately 32 lakh people from Seemandhra residing in Hyderabad, close to 18 lakh people have left the city by boarding trains, buses, taxis or flights to visit native places. Although there were fears among Seemandhras after Telangana formation, which was also the case in initial days of KCR regime, now more or less things look calm without any exaggerated fears like earlier. Slowly, TRS has come to terms with a reality that they too are a key part to keep Hyderabad’s growth engine moving.
