Passengers were travelled twice more than earlier from Gunthakal to Vijayawada after the division of the state. Since it announced as capital of Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada becomes busy and rush with all tourists from all 12 districts including Ananthapur. Currently, there are four trains exist between Gunthakal and Vijayawada. Students from Rayalaseema have showed interest to join in Vijayawada, Guntur and Vizag colleges. Industrialists, realtors and businessmen from Ananthapur have visited the Vijayawada for buying new properties. Labour is migrating towards Guntur and Vijayawada for employment from Rayalaseema region. By this, all four trains are rushed and packed with passengers. They hardly find place even to stand in general compartments. There is a need to add more train services to clear the rush from Ananthapur. As per the latest stats available, 200 people took reservation from Gunthakal station every day. Earlier, the number was 60 before the division of the state. Hardly 4 to 8 passengers were get berth confirmation. Previously, 300 general tickets were sold out from Gunthakal to Vijayawada and Guntur. After the announcement of the capital, the number goes to 700 from Gunthakal station. SCR should increase the services to cater the needs of the passengers.
