AP faces shortage of 45 lakh liters of liquor after the division of the state. TDP Government is very much keen to increase the revenue from excise. AP has opened doors for investments in liquor business. AP Government has invited applications from the investors to set up distilleries. Kith and kin of AP politicians make beeline before Excise department to do liquor business. State Government recently took policy decision to increase the volume of liquor production to cater the needs of the people. Sudden increase in the consumption of liquor among the people and stopping of liquor transportation to AP from Telangana are the reasons for change the policy. Irrespective to their political parties, all political leaders from different parties have planned to enter into this business. As per buzz, Kin and friends of TDP MPs Rayapati, SPY, JC and Kesineni are among the applicants for liquor license in Excise department. Former MP and Congress leader Harsha Kumar’s son is also applied for license. SPY Reddy set up distillery unit in Nandhyala. But the company has not yet starts its operations due to not getting license. Currently, there are 14 distillery units working in Chittoor and Krishna districts in AP. Government wants to increase more units in Northern Andhra and Rayalaseema.
