Tension is prevailing now at Nagarjunasagar due to a dispute between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the management of this dam with both of them attempting to gain control over the reservoir. The Telangana government has reportedly deployed armed reserve police at this reservoir as a precautionary step even as the AP government has written to reservoir superintending engineer Vijaya Bhaskar of Telangana, urging him to hand over partial control of this dam to AP officials for controlling 13 of the dam gates. The Nagarajunasagar dam in total has 26 radial gates and canals on both AP and TS sides. The right canal serves Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts in AP. The left canal serves Nalgonda and Khammam districts of TS. Tension mounted recently when AP officials at the dam were holding discussions with their TS counterparts and finally Vijaya Bhaskar had agreed to release 10,000 cusecs per day to right canal.
