The Telangana government is dissatisfied with the working of universities. Vice-chancellors, registrars and senior officials of varsities will now sit in school as the government intends to send them to the Union human resources development ministry to learn about education laws. Several Modules includes which makes them learn accounting.

The idea was mooted after the change of guard at the education ministry. The ministry saw that university authorities often do not have knowledge about education laws.

“We have seen that they don’t know the laws. They might know the laws of the 1990s, but there have been many amendments which are not known to them. So when it comes to us we have to correct the issue in the file,” an official said.

The universities do not even have proper accounts. Recently, the finance officers of Osmania University ‘forgot’ to put grants for campus beautification in the Budget proposals. The officials also state that most of the time of the university authorities is spent in administration.
