Supreme Court in a stern action hearing the case of posting two rape videos on WhatsApp on suo moto basis took Telangana Government along with Union Government and Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Delhi governents to task.
Supreme Court headed by ustices Madan B Lokur and U U Lalit directed CBI to launch a probe on posting of two rape videos on WhatsApp. Supreme Court after going through the letter sent by Prajwala, Hyderabad based NGO to chief justice of India HL.Dattu said "The fact of the matter is that it is a very serious issue and something needs to be done," and added "Since the first suggestion (of NGO) is for CBI investigation, notice be issued to the Director CBI to register the crime and start investigation with immediate effect,"
Supreme Court issued notices to Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and Delhi after noting that some culprits conversed in Bengali accent. It also issued notices to Telangana after the government didnot act in a case relating to the attack on the car of one of the office bearers of the NGO who had launched the 'Shame the Rapist' campaign on social networking sites.
