What! The Vizag isn't fit for a Metro Rail Project? Who said this? Well, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is very much keen to get a Metro Rail granted in the Vizag city as part of the bifurcation effect. But the Metro Rail will not be granted as we like, but depends on factor Passengers per hour per direction (PPHD) which should normally be 15,000.

Chandrababu Naidu now seems to be tensed about PPHD

The agency appointed by the Delhi Metro Rail Department makes its clear that the PPHD is only 11,000. However, the TDP government suggested three routes in which the PPHD also ranges from 5,000-8,000 which is definitely a low value. However, the Greater Vishakaptnam Municipal Corporation hopes to make up to the PPHD by the time Vizag Metro Rail(VMR) project is done.

The proposed Rail route for VMR

The GVMC official hopes, " The PPHPD rate in the city will surely reach the desired level in several areas of the city in the next three years." The DMRC officials said that the Vizag Metro Rail works will be initiated by 2018. Prof. B Venkata Ramana of Andhra University expressed his pain that the previous ruling parties have not concentrated about the public transport in areas like Vizag.

The DMRC stated that VMR will start by 2018

He said that finally they realized that Vizag is one of the best economic generators in the country. He said "The PPHPD value can reach the desired figure if the work category commuters (public and private sector employees and students) move from personal transport to public transport. Nearly 80% of the work category commuters currently use personal transport in Vizag. "

He added "They are not willing to switch to public transport due to various reasons, including unreliability of transport. However, Vizag deserves a metro rail project and hopefully the PPHPD will increase as Vizag has been projected as one of smart cities in the country and one of the fastest growing in the country apart from residuary AP's largest city."
