AP Government and Sridharan have initially planned to construct Metro project in Vijayawada in two corridors. Singapore Government seeks to extend Metro Project till Guntur in its plan. It suggests extending Metro to Guntur by connecting Durgamma Temple, Tadepalli, Mangalagiri, Nambur and Pedakakani.
Guntur people not satisfied for not connecting Metro lane to their city. Sridharan committee suggests High-Speed sub urban trains instead of Metro. But Government seeks to extend Metro Project to Guntur. There are very few passenger trains available between Vijayawada and Guntur. People depends more on APSRTC instead of trains between two cities. RTC runs service per every 5 minutes.
Density of the population might be increased in CRDA region. Singapore Government predicts 11 million population (1.10 crore) by the end of 2035 and 20 million population (2 crore) by the end of 2050. Existing transport systems (RTC and Train) doesn’t cater the needs of the people. Singapore Government suggests Metro is the right alternative to RTC and Railway to counter traffic. Metro to Guntur will be the fifth priority project suggested by Singapore Government.
