The leaders of Congress and TDP who had been with the party for a long time and those who are still continuing are having the last laugh now. Telangana became a burning issue after 1999 when NDA granted statehood to three states, for the first time after the suppression of violent agitation in 1969.

While
Naidu resisted any commitment regarding statehood, since Congress was in
opposition in 2000 Sonia Gandhi readily obliged to start playing
Telangana games. And once Congress was in power, in 2008
Chandrababu
started his set of games. But they were not alone in this drama over
Telangana statehood. Sonia Gandhi had a premier range of advisers and
strongmen from Telangana while Chandrababu too had the same.
They were the ones who convinced Naidu in 2008 and also later in 2011-12 to issue latter favouring Telangana and support statehood at the all-party meetings which were held by Home Ministry in Delhi. Senior Congress leaders in Telangana urged Sonia to take a bold decision and said this would automatically bring KCR to his knees and he will merge TRS with Congress.

While all those expert advisers in party ditched Naidu for TRS during last few years, making party weak, now it is the turn of the people who convinced Sonia to grant Telangana, who are now leaving Congress. TDP is battered in TS while Congress is now being bruised. AP leaders in both parties now feel how they convinced their leaders not to commit on TS and be fooled, they are now having the last laugh!
